Exciting Developments: The Latest from Tabora's Wheelchair Project Training Programme!

After several months of planning Rob and Celia have just arrived in Tabora. Over the next two weeks, they will lead a transformative training programme at improving our wheelchair services. This comes at a vital time when we want to enhance support for those in need in our community and empower our team to deliver an excellent service in line with WHO standards.

The training will address all aspects of wheelchair provision for our team of six. This comprehensive approach ensures that our team gains not just theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that can be applied directly in our workshop and during community outreach activities. With the expertise of Rob and Celia, our team will be able to provide the best care possible.

Workshop Refurbishment: A New Beginning

A significant achievement in our project is the refurbishment of our workshop and the recruitment of Edgar, our talented wheelchair technician. Edgar will be running a productive and well-equipped workshope which will increase our ability to maintain and repair wheelchairs effectively.

With this in place, our team can conduct repairs and custom modifications more swiftly and signifies a fresh start for our wheelchair project, allowing us to serve our community more effectively than ever.

New Additions to the Team

In an exciting development, we have welcomed two new clinicians to our team. Their expertise will greatly improve our assessment and fitting days - key moments when we evaluate individual needs and provide the right wheelchair solutions.

These clinicians come with a wealth of medical and community health knowledge. They will help us identify specific physical requirements and consider broader health implications linked to mobility challenges. This comprehensive approach ensures that each wheelchair fitting is tailored not only to the user’s physical build but also to their overall health needs.

Parent Care Training Sessions

A highlight of the upcoming training programme will be a one day Parent Care Training session, specifically designed for caregivers of babies and younger children. This initiative aims to give practical guidance on essential aspects like moving, handling, hygiene, and physiotherapy techniques.

Supporting children with mobility challenges goes beyond providing a wheelchair. By equipping caregivers with crucial skills, we aim to create a holistic support system that significantly enhances the quality of life for these children and their families. Our goal is to make this training session a regular feature of our program, providing continuous support and education to caregivers.

We believe that the more knowledge these caregivers have, the better they can support the mobility needs of their children, in particular if the intervention comes during early years.

Gratitude and Excitement

As we enter this next phase of our Wheelchair Project, we are so grateful for Rob and Celia’s involvement. Their willingness to share their expertise is appreciated by us all, and we are so excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our wheelchair project.

Looking ahead, the developments happening in Tabora are about more than just providing wheelchairs. They represent a renewed commitment to enhancing the lives of those young people in Tabora. As we progress, we look forward to sharing success stories and updates.

Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey!
