Where we work

The Tabora Region spans a vast area and is home to approximately 3.3 million people. In Tanzania, around 10% of the population has a disability, with 3% experiencing mobility challenges. Tabora is predominantly rural, with high poverty levels and subsistence agriculture as the primary source of livelihood. Notably, 96% of the population has an International Wealth Index score below 70.

Despite its size, Tabora has limited transport infrastructure, making travel difficult, especially for disabled individuals. Access to healthcare is also constrained, with no dedicated services for people with physical disabilities, and cost remains a significant barrier to treatment. We collaborate with existing healthcare providers, including the government and local organizations, believing that working together allows us to create a greater impact.

We are also dedicated to supporting our beneficiaries in staying in school for as long as possible. Education retention in Tabora District is the lowest in the country, with an average of just 4.29 years compared to the national average of 5.97 (Global Dt). As a result, many children do not continue beyond primary school. The Just Wheels program aims to address this challenge, ensuring that our beneficiaries have the best possible opportunity to reach their full potential.
